In 2024-2025, SIA SpirulinaNord and SIA GrowBites are collaborating in the Latvian Food Competence Center project “Creation of new functional and healthy products and significant improvement of existing products using spirulina grown in Latvia.” No. 5.1.1.2.i.0/1/22/A/CFLA/003. SIA “SpirulinaNord” has launched the implementation of the project “Establishment of a new SIA “SpirulinaNord” production plant” (Project No. 23-00-U2021601-000008). The implementation of the project is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia and the Rural Support Service.
The goal of the project is to establish a new SIA “SpirulinaNord” production plant and ensure efficient and continuous cultivation of spirulina in specialized bioreactors, as well as to make investments in the supply of equipment for harvesting and packaging finished products.
In the 1st stage of the project implementation (until 31.01.2024), the company has been supplied with 10 photobioreactors intended for the cultivation of microalgae spirulina. The project will end on 31 March 2025.
SIA ”SpirulinaNord” on 14.02.2024. concluded with LIAA Agreement No. 17.1-1-L-2024/88 on receiving support for providing export support within the framework of the project “Development of Innovative Entrepreneurship of SMEs”, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
In November 2023, participation in the EIT Food RIS Consumer Engagement Labs project.
In 2023-2024, with the support of a grant from the Latvian State Broadcasting Corporation and the Buildit Opportunity Capital Fund, a new production facility with a larger production capacity will be built.
2021 – 2023 participation in LIAA support programs:
for attracting highly qualified workers within the framework of the specific support objective “Increase private sector investment in R&D” of the operational program 1.2.1.2. measure “Support for the improvement of the technology transfer system” (LIAA project No. 1.2.1.2/16/I/001 “Technology Transfer Program”). Project objective: Significant improvement of bioreactor productivity and optimization of the production process, as a result of which the cultivation and harvesting protocol will be improved, new spirulina varieties will be evaluated. Optimization of the production process will include analysis of manual labor time and productivity and evaluation of automation (or mechanization) and other optimization options.

In 2020, participation in the Buildit accelerator. “Buildit is an accelerator that supports hardware and IoT startups in turning an idea into a tangible, market-worthy product”.
In 2020, together with LLU and SIA Keefa, participation in the EIT Consumer Engagement Lab project: pre-competitive co-creation sessions carried out by a similar group of consumers (e.g. seniors) in a joint, virtual place and limited in time, focused on ideation/ development of new product concepts.
2019 laureates of the grant program for young entrepreneurs in Stopiņi municipality implemented by the Pierīga municipality together with SEB bank.
In the fall of 2019, we won 2nd place in the EIT Food Innovation Competition.
In 2019, LIAA support was obtained for:
A participation in international exhibitions abroad, participation in business-related conferences and direct visits to a potential investor or cooperation partner abroad. Contract number IZ-L-2019/75.
As well as support in the “ERDF Technology Transfer Program: “Innovation Voucher Support Services”. Contract no. VP-L-2019/42 “SIA “SpirulinaNord” on July 17, 2019 concluded contract No. 53 with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia on receiving support in the innovation voucher program to conduct industrial research on various packaging and corresponding expiration dates in accordance with the European Regional Development Fund project “Technology Transfer Program” (project identification number 1.2.1.2/16/I/001).
In 2019, we worked at the Climate KIC accelerator.
We were national finalists in the 2018 EIT Climate-KIC LaunchPad, participating in the global competition.
We put together our first business vision at the RTU Design Factory pre-incubator IdeaLab in 2018.
