As a doctor specializing in preventive health and anti-inflammatory nutrition, I carefully evaluate the products I use myself and recommend to others. It was important for me to find a natural, minimally processed product that helps reduce inflammation while providing the body with essential nutrients.

SpirulinaNord’s natural spirulina meets these criteria perfectly—combining amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants in one pure, natural product. It is also an excellent source of iron for your daily diet. Given that many people today live with slow-progressing, silent inflammation, including spirulina in your diet can be a simple and valuable step in supporting the health of the entire family.

Dr. Alise Lielause - Anti-inflammatory diet

"Latvian Olympic athletes have been using spirulina for a long time. We are delighted that it is grown in Latvia and available in fresh form. The most popular product is SpirulinaNord syrup, because you can take it with you anywhere. We have observed that when you use it, your body absorbs iron much better."

Dr. Līga Cīrule
Head doctor of the Latvian Olympic Unit

"When I take spirulina, I feel more energetic, especially during periods when my to-do list is long. Then I always remember to drink spirulina, and my work goes faster. For patients who do not consume animal products, I recommend fresh spirulina as a source of protein and essential amino acids, as well as for dietary diversity. Pregnant women also like fresh spirulina because it improves both their well-being and test results. I recommend everyone to try it!"

Dr. Iveta Pleša-Rutule
Holistic dentist

"As a professional athlete, I am very careful to ensure that my body gets everything it needs. Fresh spirulina is a natural product that provides everything necessary for normal blood circulation and a healthy heart, reduces bad cholesterol levels and reduces inflammation in the body! Now I need less meat. I recommend it!"

Only Two Tablespoons a Day

Add spirulina to water, a smoothie, or juice. A convenient and simple habit that helps you feel better every day.

Fresh vs. Dried Spirulina: What is The Difference?

We grow in closed photobioreactors in Latvia and never heat-process. Most commodity spirulina is spray-dried at 180–200 °C, which damages the heat-sensitive compounds spirulina is studied for.
SpirulinaNord
Spirulina powder & tablets Processed and dry spirulina powder
✅ Fresh from the bioreactor. Dark green. Mild berry juice taste
❌ Processed, months on a shelf. "Pond" taste and smell as a result from spray-drying and oxidation
✅ 60% more phycocyanin (the blue-green pigment-protein)
❌ Phycocyanin degrades during spray-drying at 180–200°C
✅ 87% more vitamin E. 50% more carotenoids
❌ Heat-sensitive vitamins degraded during drying
✅ Measurable SOD enzyme activity (167.7 U/g)
❌ SOD undetectable — heat denatures the enzyme
✅ Cultivated in closed photobio-reactors. By design: no heavy metals, no microcystins, no environmental contaminants.
❌ Open-pond cultivation is typical for commodity spirulina. Heavy-metal and microcystin contamination is documented in industry surveillance.

It Matters Where It's Grown

Our spirulina is cultivated in closed-loop bioreactors. This protects the algae from pollution while preserving the nutrients.

Founded by Scientists

Founders Dr. Agnese Stunda-Zujeva, Dr. Kristine Vegere and Kaspars Veģeris spent years perfecting the technology to grow the world's purest microalgae.

They successfully bridged the gap between nature and science to create a superfood of unmatched purity.

The Science Behind Spirulina

Spirulina has been researched for over 60 years. It’s one of the most nutrient-dense superfoods on the planet.

Ask Us Anything

Got questions? We have answers.

No. Pure fresh spirulina is practically tasteless — the fishy or swampy taste people associate with spirulina is from oxidation in dried product or contamination, not from the spirulina itself. Our syrups taste like clean berries; our frozen cubes taste like almost nothing.

The sugar is the preservation system, not the flavor. At this concentration, sugar creates a low-water-activity environment that prevents microbial growth and oxidation, allowing fresh raw spirulina to stay alive at room temperature. Spirulina with Sea Buckthorn juice is our lowest-sugar bottled product at 3.4 g per serving. Fresh frozen spirulina have zero added sugar (available in Latvia only)

One serving is 22 ml (~2 tablespoons). We recommend 1–2 servings per day as the typical routine, up to 3 servings for higher-load periods. Take it straight from the spoon or diluted in 100–200 ml of cold water.

Independent customer reviews cluster around a 3-week threshold for most people to notice a subjective shift. Some report changes within the first week (especially if iron was low at baseline); others take a month or two. We recommend committing to a 6-week course (3 bottles of syrup) before deciding.

Syrups and Sea Buckthorn juice ship throughout the EU — free shipping above €59, €5 flat below. Frozen cubes ship within Latvia only because cold-chain delivery to Europe is not currently offered.

All products contain the same fresh spirulina. For sweetness: the syrups (room-temperature stable, taken by the spoonful or in water). Lower sugar option: Sea-buckthorn juice (ready to drink, no green flavor). For purists: frozen cubes (zero added sugar, blend into smoothies, ships within Latvia only).

We recommend taking it earlier in the day. If you want to maximize iron absorption, leave at least a 60-minute gap between SpirulinaNord and coffee, tea, or dairy products — caffeine and dairy reduce iron uptake. Vitamin C in the syrup increases iron absorption — a working pairing built into the recipe.

Extensive research confirms that fresh spirulina is safe for consumption across all groups.

It is a valuable source of iron—a nutrient often lacking during pregnancy. While many iron supplements can irritate the stomach, fresh spirulina actually helps reduce discomfort.

It is compatible with doctor-prescribed iron supplements and can even help improve iron absorption.

It is rare but not impossible. As with any new food, we recommend starting with a smaller dose (half a serving) to see how your body reacts before taking the full amount. If you have known severe allergies to pistachio, fish, shrimp, corn, or latex — or a history of severe atopy or anaphylaxis — please consult a clinician before introducing spirulina.

Fresh spirulina is a normal part of a healthy diet, and studies have reported no adverse effects on any specific group. However, SpirulinaNord® is not officially certified as children's food or specialized nutrition.

No. We cultivate our spirulina in a controlled, iodine-free environment. Unlike seaweed, spirulina does not require iodine to grow.
