Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Support Service (2026–2027)
Project No. 25-00-U2021601-000009. Through the implementation of this project, SIA "SpirulinaNord" is acquiring additional bioreactor systems and other capital assets to advance production, thereby increasing manufacturing capacity. This project is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Rural Support Service.
Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (2025–2026)
In 2025, SIA "SpirulinaNord" entered into agreement No. 9.2-24-L-2025/7 with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) regarding a support program for the recruitment of highly qualified employees within the framework of the European Regional Development Fund and the National Development Plan.
The project’s objective is to develop and refine an innovative production process (including a new production line) and technology for the cultivation of the microscopic algae spirulina, aiming to reduce production costs and manual labor by at least 10%. The technological challenge being addressed involves mitigating quality fluctuations caused by raw material variability and the impact of manual labor.
Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (2024–2026)
On February 14, 2024, SIA 'SpirulinaNord' concluded Agreement No. 17.1-1-L-2024/88 with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) regarding the receipt of support for export assistance within the framework of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) co-financed project 'Development of Innovative Entrepreneurship in SMEs'.
Latvian Food Competence Centre (2024 - 2025)
In 2024-2025, SIA SpirulinaNord and SIA GrowBites collaboratedon the Latvian Food Competence Centre project ‘Creation of new functional and healthy products and significant improvement of existing products using spirulina grown in Latvia’ (No. 5.1.1.2.i.0/1/22/A/CFLA/003).
Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia and the Rural Support Service (2023–2025)
SIA “SpirulinaNord” has commenced the implementation of the project “Establishment of a New Production Facility for SIA ‘SpirulinaNord’” (Project No. 23-00-U2021601-000008). The implementation of the project is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia and the Rural Support Service.
Within the framework of the project, a new production facility for SIA “SpirulinaNord” was established to ensure higher capacity, efficient, and continuous cultivation of spirulina in specialized bioreactors. Investments were also made in the automation of finished product harvesting and packaging, including the installation of a bottle-filling line.
Buildit Accelerator of Things (2023-2024)
In 2023–2024, a new production facility with increased production capacity will be built with the support of the Latvia State Radio and Television Centre and the Buildit Opportunity Capital fund.
EIT Food RIS Consumer Engagement Labs (2023)
In November 2023 – participation in the EIT Food RIS Consumer Engagement Labs project.
Investment and Development Agency of Latvia 2021–2023
2021 – 2023 participation in LIAA support programs:
- For the attraction of highly qualified employees within the framework of the specific support objective 1.2.1.2 "To increase private sector investment in R&D" measure "Support for the improvement of the technology transfer system" (LIAA project No. 1.2.1.2/16/I/001 "Technology Transfer Programme"). Agreement No. JU-L-2021/12.Project goal: Significant improvement of bioreactor productivity and optimization of the production process, resulting in an improved cultivation and harvesting protocol and the evaluation of new spirulina varieties. The optimization of the production process will include an analysis of manual labor time and productivity, as well as an evaluation of automation (or mechanization) and other optimization possibilities.
- For export support measures within the framework of measure 3.2.1.2 "Promoting international competitiveness" of the specific support objective 3.2.1 "To increase the proportion of exports of high value-added products and services" of the "Growth and Employment" program (LIAA project identification number 3.2.1.2./16/I/001). Agreement number SKV-L-2021/361.
Buildit Accelerator of Things (2020)
In 2020, participation in the Buildit accelerator. "Buildit is an accelerator that supports hardware and IoT startups to turn an idea into a tangible, market-demanded product.
EIT Food RIS Consumer Engagement Labs (2020)
In 2020, together with LLU and SIA "Keefa", participation in the EIT Consumer Engagement Labs project: pre-competitive co-creation sessions conducted by a similar group of consumers (e.g., seniors) in a shared virtual space and within a limited timeframe, focusing on the ideation/development of new product concepts.
"Iedvesma" Grant Program (2019)
Winners of the 2019 grant program for new entrepreneurs in Stopiņi Municipality, implemented by Pierīga municipalities in cooperation with SEB bank.
EIT Food RIS Consumer Engagement Labs (2019)
In the autumn of 2019, we won 2nd place in the EIT Food Innovation Prize.
Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (2019)
In 2019, support from LIAA was received:
- Participation in international trade fairs abroad, participation in business-related conferences, and direct visits to potential investors or cooperation partners abroad. Agreement No. IZ-L-2019/75.
- Support within the "ERDF Technology Transfer Program: 'Innovation Voucher Support Services'". Agreement No. VP-L-2019/42.On July 17, 2019, SIA "SpirulinaNord" concluded Agreement No. 53 with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia regarding the receipt of support under the innovation voucher program to conduct industrial research on various packaging solutions and corresponding shelf lives, in accordance with the European Regional Development Fund project "Technology Transfer Program" (Project ID No. 1.2.1.1.2/16/I/001).
EIT Climate KIC (2019)

In 2018, we were EIT Climate-KIC Launchpad national finalists and participated in the global competition.
